There seemed to be plenty of places to visit in the area and plenty of parking set up for the busy summers. We tried to be selective about where we visited so that we didn't spend a lot of time in the car and waste diesel. Below are a few places we did go to. |

There were coastal walks along the beach and then along the cliffs that gradually became higher and more rugged as we approached the Spanish border. We only did 3 or 4 km in a day as this was plenty for Tilly. This picture is the coast walk going south towards Collioure. There were also flat beachs to walk on and hilly walks around the Alberes. |

A winter morning in Collioure pictured from the breakwater. Collioure also had a Sunday market every weekend which was always busy and one of the few places open on a Sunday. Collioure was home to several famous artists for obvious reasons. We especially like the mix of mountains and the sea. |

On the way to Castelnaudery to visit friends on a barge on the Canal du Midi, we visited Carcassonne for lunch. The castle and battlements here are very famous and well visited by French and foreigners alike, but are really a 1850's reproduction of a medieval style, although they do look great! Lunch was also good as we tried the local speciality Cassoulet. |
